Week 6
Team 17 members got interested in sign language after seeing an article in our reading journal. You may know how to say "hello" or sign your name with letters.
Check out this amazing website that will teach you a huge about of word signs.
Next write down a sentence you will sign, practice and then test the class.
Once you have mastered your sentence you will record it on the laptop webcam for your blog..

WALT: make and change our predictions as we read.
SC: we will check our predictions and make new ones as we read.

Week 2
1. Reply to any questions and comments you received on your blog post last week.
2. Write a new blog post about your first week back at school. Things you have learnt, you best moments, changes from last term.













Term 1 2010
Week 9
WALT write blog comments.
We will know we have succeeded when our comment says something good, why it was good, and something they could do better. It will be written as a proper sentence.
Blog Task:
In pairs, please read Room 8 @ Melville Intermediate's blog post on Earth Hour which was on Saturday night. Write a comment. What did you do for Earth Hour? Why do you think these are good ideas? Re-read it for meaning and grammar.


Guided Reading
Learning Intention: WALT make and check predictions we read.
Success Criteria: We will know we can do this when we make and check our predictions when we read.


Week 5
We are learning to read and comment on other class blogs:
  1. In pairs, please read Motutoa's BlogVoiceThread post and comment by recording.
  2. Then comment on two student's writing on Mrs Quam's Student Writing Blog.
  3. Discuss what they did well and what positive comment you can give.
  4. For each blog post you comment on record in your reading book, the name of the blog, the title of the post and the authors name.
  5. Comment on at least two blog posts. Proof your comments before publishing.

Guided Reading
Learning Intention: WALT find key words and information when reading.
Success Criteria: We will know we can do this when we retell the information in our own words..
1. Visit this 'Life Cycles' website. Take notes of key information.

2. View this slide show on The Life Cycle of a Monarch Butterfly. Take notes of key information.

3. As a group draw the life cycle of a monarch butterfly, in your reading group book.
(How to draw a butterfly: School Journal 1997 Part 3 Number 3)
- In pencil The Recorder draws a big picture guide for the group.
- Each member takes a quarter page to add detail, pencil colour and lables.
The Gatekeeper makes sure every team member takes part.
The Taskmaster makes sure everyone keeps at their task.
The Timekeeper hurries the team along and tells them how much time they have left.
- Lables should tell about the life cycle PLUS some interesting facts about monarch butterflies.








Week 3
Learning Intention: We are learning to identify strategies good readers use when reading.
Success Criteria: We will know we have learnt this when we can show these strategies to a buddy.

How to work at a laptop in pairs: Play Paper/Rock/Scissors to decide who uses the keyboard first. The other person must help with the answers, reading or writing. Take turns on the laptop after each activity or after 5 minutes.

What are antonyms, synonyms, and homonyms?
Click on the words to find out.
1. Learn how to say (pronounce) the words. Practice with your buddy.
2. Write the word and meaning in your Word Bank.
3. In pairs play first the single-player game, play 2 levels then swap.
Challenge another pair to a game using the Multi-Player game below.
